At 2am this Sunday (30th October) British Summer Time officially ends, giving us all an extra hour in bed.
If, like many of us, you’ve already turned on your heating to beat the chill, you’ll want to make sure that, as well as turning your clocks back, you’ve also adjusted the timer on your thermostat to compensate for that extra hour. There’s nothing worse than trying to get out of bed in the morning when the house is like an ice cave because you’ve forgotten to sort out the heating. Not to mention that extra hour of heating while you’re asleep is essentially a waste of money and energy. Try setting your heating to turn on an hour before you wake up and to turn off an hour after you go to bed.
Remember – this Sunday, 2am, turn those clocks back and remember to do your thermostat at the same time!
Alternatively, many new smart heating systems will automatically account for daylight saving time – systems like the Nest Learning Thermostat. This thermostat learns your routine and heats your home accordingly, saving you time, money and energy! Provided you’re connected to Wi-Fi your Nest will alter its heating pattern when the clocks go backward and forward and, if you’re not happy, you can also manually override the system from your phone – great for when your routine changes!
